on this site are in the Monferrato area of the Piemonte provinces of Alessandria and Asti; a beautiful and still unspoiled part of northern Italy.
The area is rolling hills and wide plains surrounded by mountains and important rivers, yet within only an hour of the sea along the Ligurian coast. It is served by four international airports (Turin, Genova and Milan - Malpensa and Linate) and enjoys comprehensive motorway and rail systems with direct links to all important places.
Piemonte is home to 'Slow Food', fine wines, truffles and healthy village life. Typical houses are rustic farmhouses (cascine), Italianate townhouses, villas and the odd castle scattered here and there. Most are painted in earthy tones, have thick brick walls with their original terracotta roof tiles and shutters. Villages tend to nestle on top of the hills and therefore many properties enjoy far reaching panoramic views.
This region benefits from four distinct seasons, warm sunny springs that give rise to a lush green fertile landscape, hot dry summers that are never too humid to be comfortable, sunny autumn days ideal for harvesting the vines and chilly winters that sometimes offer snow but more often than not afford impressive views of the white peaked mountains contrasted against blue skies.
This area harks back to an Italy of a bygone era where agriculture dominates and the pace is slow despite being so close to the bustling cities of Turin, Genova and Milan. It is the perfect place to infiltrate Italy, to live the life without fighting for elbow room with mass tourism. The prices here reflect that different lifestyle, making Piemonte an affordable place to buy and live.
