Monferrato

Homes on this site are in the Monferrato area of the Piemonte provinces of Alessandria and Asti; a beautiful and still unspoiled part of northern Italy.

The area is rolling hills and wide plains surrounded by tall mountains and important rivers, yet within only an hour of the sea. It is served by three international airports and enjoys comprehensive rail and motorway systems. Piemonte is home to Slow Food, fine wines, truffles and healthy village life.

Typical houses are rustic farmhouses (cascine), Italianate townhouses, villas and the odd castle scattered here and there. Most are painted in earthy tones, have thick brick walls with their original terracotta roof tiles and shutters.

This area harks back to an Italy of a bygone era where agriculture dominates and the pace is slow despite being so close to the bustling cities of Turin, Genova and Milan. It is the perfect place to infiltrate Italy, to live the life without fighting for elbow room with mass tourism.
